Marty Stokes was originally raised on Sanibel & Captiva Islands, a true NATIVE ISLANDER and Floridian, and has been playing different variations of Blues Music since he was a kid. Raw and melodic, original, and reaching to the emotional core, Stokes will not disappoint a good blues audience. His early blues influences began as a youngster overseas while growing up in a Military family. Dad was in the Air Force and so there were several assignments in Germany, and blues artists performing to eager European listeners. It was in Wiesbaden Germany that Stokes fell in love with the blues and so the story goes......
A group of long-time friends, the band 'delivers the goods' with tasteful grooves over Stokes' originals, alongside creative arrangements of covers. Jennifer Mazziotti, Daryl Best and Jerry Subrosa make up the 'core' of the MARTY STOKES BAND. Jennifer, also well known as Jazzy Mazzy has been playing faithfully alongside Marty for the past eight years, and laces their sound with wonderful harmonies and jazz overtones. Jennifer's artistic contributions are well evident in everything he has recorded so far. Her musical knowledge is evident in every note. Daryl Best's contributions on bass will not go unnoticed with the 'fat' bottom delivery he has been laying down with this band over the past 5 years. The recent addition of Jerry Subrosa on percussion, marks a definitive 'step-up' with refined blues chops and grooves that will do nothing but impress an avid blues enthusiast.
The first CD entitled HEAR YOU CALLIN' is a collection of mostly Stokes' originals, laced with a few licensed and tastefully arranged covers. Progressive Blues marks the color of this initial bold statement, and listeners have nothing but the best comments to offer. This CD received great reviews and the tune STOP originally recorded by Lonnie Mack has received nearly 100,000 hits on You Tube.
The 2nd CD release is entitled LEAVIN' BLUES, loaded with plenty of hot blues guitar, vocals, and the saxophone work of Jennifer Mazziotti. Probably the greatest difference between the first and second CD's would be a specific focus on hard core Blues---both style and delivery. At any rate, this is a fine recording, and cuts have been played from this as well as all the Stokes CD's all over European Radio stations to blues lovers.
The 3rd CD entitled PICK UP THE PHONE is again a fine work with 10 originals and some fine re-licensed covers, with Stokes' handiwork branding them practically as his own. Featured also on this CD are two tracks by the great guitarist and friend JP SOARS, accompanied by the fine drum work of Chris Peet, a member of JPs Red Hots and drumming idol to those aspiring to understand the simplicity but also the difficulty of the 'blues pocket'. Additionally Marty reworked an old Spiritual entitled MORNING TRAIN, covered decades ago by Jonathon Edwards, and also laid down with only one track, an acoustic guitar and vocals original entitled INSIDE THE BOTTLE. PICK UP THE PHONE gained International attention and ended up at one point in the top ten Blues albums on Italy's Blues Billboard during 2017.
Stokes' latest release and 4th CD entitled DOWN ON MY KNEES, features mostly originals, (some of which were previously recorded), along with 3 brand new originals, and a new cover previously by Albert Castiglia, entitled HURRICANE BLUES, laying down Stokes' own interpretation. This CD has been complimented by esteemed critics as being a 'great blues listen' and 'very well done' , and was also selected to represent the SOUTH FLORIDA BLUES SOCIETY'S first choice in representation for the BEST SELF-PRODUCED BLUES CD (IBC COMPETITION IN MEMPHIS) Every blues lover needs a copy of this one for those long drives and for a refreshing, original sound that speaks to the core.
